A pan brake folder is used to bend and form sheet metal into boxes, trays, panels and complex profiles. Its removable segmented fingers let an operator fold all four sides of a box without the flanges colliding, something a straight brake cannot do. Pan brake folders are used across sheet metal fabrication, HVAC ducting, stainless catering and commercial kitchens, roofing and flashing, electrical cabinet manufacturing and general engineering/fabrication. Anywhere repeated, accurate folding is part of daily work, a panbrake earns its place.

A pan brake folds sheet metal by clamping it and swinging a folding beam upward; a press brake forces material into a die with a descending punch. That difference decides what each is good at. Pan brakes handle box and tray work, deep channels and complex folds using removable fingers, with quick setup for short runs. Press brakes handle thicker plate, longer lengths and CNC forming. Many workshops run both; the panbrake for versatility, the press brake for heavy production.

A box and pan brake is another name for a pan brake folder, the terms are used interchangeably. The name describes what the machine does: the segmented upper tooling can be arranged to suit the workpiece, so an operator can form a four-sided box or an open pan without the already-folded sides fouling the tooling. You may also see them called finger brakes, metal folding brakes or panbrake folders. All describe the same class of machine.

Across our range, pan brake folders bend from 1.0mm up to 6.5mm in mild steel, and up to 4.0mm in stainless steel. The figure that matters is the combination of thickness and fold length, because capacity falls as the machine gets wider A 1220mm machine may handle 3.5mm while a 4000mm machine in the same series is rated to 1.0mm. Stainless typically reduces capacity by around a third against mild steel. Tell us both figures and we'll match the model.

Start with your longest fold and longest width fold, then your thickest material, in that order. Fold length sets the machine size, and our range runs from 1220mm to 4100mm. Thickness then determines which model within that size. There's no benefit in buying more length than you use, since a wider machine of the same capacity costs more and takes more floor space. Also consider bend angle and opening height if you form deep boxes or tall sections. Our team sizes machines against actual jobs, not guesswork.
